ORIGIN STORY

I wish I could say I am from Austin, but no, I was raised in Orlando, FL. My girlfriend (now wife) and I met at Florida State University in 2016 and in 2017 we sold off what we could and drove west for more heat apparently.

I originally pursued real estate but ended up grabbing fast cash as a food courier with Favor and Doordash for five years.

Over 7,500 food deliveries. That’s a lot of fries.

I had an appetite for lucrative work and struggled to establish a secure career path. I learned a lot about what I didn’t want.

In 2019 while food delivering I decided to try out this app called Taskrabbit. I found moving to be fairly easy for me since I’ve moved myself and my older brother enough times. I slowly started moving more, learning from the best, always smiling through some of the most brutal moving tasks.

Slowly, I came across other top Taskers and became friends with the best. I started a group chat and the rest was history…

I have learned a lot about myself, my work ethic, my professionalism evolving as I prove to satisfy my clients when they need help the most.

Since IKEA purchased Taskrabbit in 2017 for mid hundred million dollars, app policy has gone downhill.

The app charges my clients between 38-48% extra on top of my hourly rate and I get to see none of that.

Very soon, policy is coming in to where the app picks a mover and their rate for you instead of the traditional “ free market” style it is today where you as a client chooses a mover based on a scroll down list of bio profiles and everyone has their own rates.

When that happens, there goes our mover rights to charge the price we deserve.

Austin is not getting any colder soon.

It’s “fry-your-egg-on-your-car-dashboard” season.

Jan-Feb is just foreplay; by May we’re already in the 100s.

Those couches on the 3rd story apartment with no elevator in 105 degrees aren’t going to move themselves.

So why should we lose our right to charge the price we deserve, not see that 48% fee and adhere to their controlling automated algorithm that dictates what movers are shown first in the app the way it is now?
